47158312311_9651b0b24b_kLittle Miss Muddy Muzzle: Our cairn terriers are working terriers. They dig constantly outdoors to keep our home safe from voles and other woodland critters. (“Terrier” means “earth dog.”) Consequently, they often wear the badge of mud on their muzzles, as Brunhilde is doing here. Photo made Feb. 20, 2019. Nikon D500, AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G, ƒ/3, 40mm (DX 60mm), 1/30th sec., ISO 1600.

46244007915_04c20233bb_kHere we go again! One month to spring and another round of snow and ice. But at least for now there’s a gorgeous white blanket in our woods.  Photo made Feb. 20, 2019. Nikon D500, Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, ƒ/8, 18mm (DX 27mm), 1/125th sec., ISO200.

47106723711_5b79d53b51_kPlaying it safe: Our terriers went after it yesterday, so my little squirrel friend is keeping its distance today. It’ll be back up on the deck eventually, scrounging for seeds. The temptation is too great. Nikon D500, Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens, VR on, ƒ/8, 600mm (900mm DX), 1/250th sec., 800 ISO.

47099816611_db3c28a172_kSquirrel! We’ve given up on bird feeders for now. Bears tear them down, and squirrels raid them, too. Now we just spread seed out on a bench on the deck, and for the most part squirrels get it. Picture made Feb. 14, 2019, through a living room window. Nikon D500, Taamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens, ƒ/11, 260mm (DX 390mm), 1/125th sec., ISO 800.

42719897821_5124af70f1_kSerengeti Pit Stop. There are no amenities at the eastern entrance to Serengeti National Park. The official eastern Naabi Hill Gate is another 25km to the west; this is just a flat place to stop so weary riders can stretch at the dividing frontier between the national park to the west and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the east. The dry season of an East African winter has begun. Image made June 22, 2017. Nikon D500 AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED [II], ƒ/16, 18mm (DX 27mm), 1/1000th sec., ISO 400.

A fawn in the front yard. Not a rare occurrence but always a pleasant one, especially since all the daylilies are nibbled off and the dogs aren’t going nuts. This photo was shot through a closed front window on July 31, 2018. Nikon D500, AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED [II], ƒ/8, 200mm (DX 300mm), 1/350th sec., ISO1600.
